FRISCO, Texas (Dec. 16, 2016) — The US Youth Soccer National League teams will resume league play Dec. 27 through Jan. 2 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex and ChampionsGate Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla. The games are held in conjunction with the Disney Soccer Showcase, as the boys will compete Dec. 27-29, while the girls play Dec. 31-Jan. 2.
The schedule for Orlando features four of the eight teams per division in the 15U through 19/20U age groups, meaning 64 boys teams and 64 girls teams will take the fields to play the final three games of their National League season. Each matchup holds great importance in determining which teams will punch their ticket to the 2017 US Youth Soccer National Championships, held July 25-30 in Frisco, Texas.
After both the boys and girls sides played competitive matches in North Carolina to open their seasons, nearly every division has several teams in position to contend for the title. The first place team’s lead is two points or less in 13 of 16 boys divisions and 12 of 16 girls divisions.
Teams competing in Orlando can also qualify for Disney Showcase championship games on Dec. 30 (boys) and Jan. 3 (girls), which are separate from the National League season.
The National League teams that do not compete in Orlando will complete their season at the Players College Showcase in Las Vegas — with boys games held March 10-12 and girls games played March 17-19.
The National League features the top 256 teams in the 15U through 19/20U Boys and Girls age groups. With teams in each age group divided into eight-team divisions, each side has had to earn its place in the league through success in US Youth Soccer Regional Leagues and National Championship Series play.
The National League provides a pathway for four teams per gender age group to qualify for the US Youth Soccer National Championships. The four National League representatives will join the four regional champions at the 2017 National Championships at the Toyota Soccer Center in Frisco, Texas.
The National League is an extension of the highly successful US Youth Soccer Regional Leagues (US Youth Soccer Eastern Regional League, Midwest Regional League, Southern Regional Premier League and Far West Regional League). The National League provides an avenue for teams to play in meaningful matches against top competition from across the country for continued development and opportunities for exposure at the national team, collegiate and professional levels.
